OVW TV #844: "Howe Not To Win"

This is the OVW Report for Wednesday, October 21, 2015. This episode can be seen on WBNA-21 in the Louisville area on Saturday at 11AM and 10PM, and online on Monday at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, Randy Royal faces Ryan Howe in a #1 contender's match, Mitch Huff defends the OVW TV Title, Private Anthony has another test from General Pope, plus more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"The Party Starter" Bud Dwight defeats "Bad Boy" Shane Andrews (w/Jessie Belle) by countout. Dwight takes it to Shane early, and Shane pouts in the corner. Dwight goes up top, but is pushed off by Jessie. Shane controls for a bit, but misses a charge in the corner. Dwight splashes Shane in the corner, hits the high knee, and hits a double axehandle off the top. He goes for the pin, but Shane grabs the ropes. Dwight goes for the Party Slam, but Jessie Belle trips him. Shane rolls out and leaves.

"Primetime" Robbie Walker defeats J. Best after hitting the Crossroads.
After the match, he grabs a mic and says he doesn't suck, Adam Wylde does. He let Wylde come along for the ride, then Wylde tried to replace him with Mitch (Huff). He's done with them and all the fans.

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on WBNA ion-21 in the Louisville area Saturdays at 11AM and 10PM (check local listings) and on OVW's official website Mondays at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Gilbert Corsey & Ron Hed are on commentary, and Shannon the Dude is the ring announcer.

"The Van Zandt Family Circus": Dapper Dan Van Zandt & the Ringmaster defeat Tyler Matrix & Wes Connors. Wes takes some abuse before getting the hot tag to Matrix. Matrix hits Dan with a double axehandle off the top, hits Ringmaster as he jumps off the top rope at him, then hits Dan with a couple dropkicks and a swinging neckbreaker. Ringmaster leaps at Matrix, and Matrix catches him, but Dan takes out Matrix's leg. Dan hits Matrix with the spinning powerbomb, and Ringmaster hits the flying elbow off the middle of the ropes for the 3.

Gilbert Corsey brings out the owner of Against the Grain Brewery, who is sponsoring the "Brews & Bruises" show at Louisville Slugger Field on November 21 and Dean Hill. Dean says the next tag team and femme fatale will be announced next week, but the ATGB owner has an announcement about a big match. There will be a "Golden Ticket" ladder match! The winner gets a guaranteed shot at the OVW Heavyweight Title any time they want.
They are interrupted by Robbie Walker, who wants to be in the match. Dean says he doesn't just do handouts. There will be a series of qualifying matches. This results in Robbie bringing out the owner of Dauntless Distributing, who says he's been overlooked in sponsoring the event. The guys from Against the Grain and Dauntless throw barbs at each other and Robbie shoves the ATG guy down as he leaves the ring.

Private Anthony is in the ring to face Rook, and the test is being blindfolded and having one arm tied behind his back. However, once he is blindfolded, General Pope comes out, pokes Rook in the eye, and then rolls up Anthony for the 3. Pope takes off the blindfold and tells Anthony to think. They then destroy Rook and Pope grabs a mic.
He says they will be at the Saturday Night Special, and they will walk out champions.

Erick Locker and Big Jon come fighting out of the back. Locker takes Jon off his feet and then rams his leg repeatedly off the steel ringpost. Jon has to be helped out as Josh Ashcraft & Trevor Steele come out clapping.
Josh then brings out Chris Silvio, who is accompanied by Rocco Bellagio. Locker wants his money, and gets attacked by Steele & Rocco. Rocco delivers a big boot, and Steele delivers a pumphandle slam. Silvio then says he is the champion, because he is the best. He has Rocco as a training partner, and Josh as his executive consultant. He then says Rocco has a chance at the "Golden Ticket" next with the best ref, Dave Banyon.

Rocco Bellagio (w/Josh Ashcraft) defeats Adam Revolver with a Rocco Bottom.
Rocco continues to beat on Revolver, and Rev. Stu Miles runs out. Stu tries to "heal" Rocco, but Rocco hits him with a Rocco Bottom for his troubles.

OVW TELEVISION TITLE: "The Chosen One" Mitch Huff (c) defeats "Ladies' Man" Leon Shelly after Huff rolls through Leon's flying body press, slams him, and then connects with the super kick for the 3.
After the match, Scarlet runs out to check on Leon. The Van Zandt Family Circus then comes out and attacks Leon, and Scarlet speaks to tell them to stop, because she is pregnant!

#1 Contender's Match: "Double R Superstar" Randy Royal (w/Jessie Belle) defeats "Wrestling's Rockstar" Ryan Howe after interference from Shane Andrews. Dave Banyon was the ref for this match and he made a quick count on top of not seeing Shane's interference, Jessie Belle holding down Howe's leg, or the fact that Howe grabbed the bottom rope.

This ended the TV taping.

Post-Show Dark Matches:

Rev. Stu Miles defeats Erick Locker after some "healing" and a rollup for the 3.

As always, thanks for reading!

  2. I hope she is and this isn't an angle. Fake pregnancy angles never workout well.

    2. Idk. The Ashcraft vs Sharpe angle last year worked pretty well..

  3. I don't think people realize just how talented Randy Royal is. How many people can go from an "awshucks" country boy to a redneck outlaw and make it believable?

    1. I agree. Everyone is so caught up in superkicks and high flyers, they forget that some fans still like the good old-fashioned ass kicking.

  4. So instead of getting a women match, hyping up the supposed 'revival' of OVW's womens division, we get a pregnancy storyline?

Nice to see where OVW's priorities lie with their women, or lack thereof.

    1. If this is Dean's idea of jump starting the womens division, I'm not impressed.
