OVW TV #700: "700th Episode Special"

This is the OVW Report for the historic 700th episode on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. This episode can be seen online starting tomorrow at www.ovwrestling.com/tv. In this episode, we had a steel cage brawl between Doug Williams & Johnny Spade, and every title was on the line! The cage was actually pre-built as we entered and it was filmed before the dark matches, but in my usual style of reporting, I will add the cage match to the beginning of the main show, and report on the dark matches first.

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

"The Ken of OVW, Justin Bieber of Professional Wrestling, & King of Pink" Dylan Freak'n Bostic b. Stephon J. Baxter III. Bostic & Stephon exchange blows, and Stephon gets Dylan in a side headlock. Bostic comes back with some chops and a dropkick. He throws Stephon in the corner and hits a double high knee. Stephon chops back and throws Dylan off the ropes. He goes for a butt bump, but Dylan catches him and hits him with the Backstabber for the pin. MY TAKE: Bostic is proving to be more than just a king of pink, but currently a king of the ring with his winning streak.

"The Double R Superstar" Randy Royal (w/Tony Gunn) b. Jeremiah Plunkett. Plunkett throws some punches right away and throws Royal off the ropes. Randy kicks him and then hits a running high knee. Royal lifts Plunkett up, but Plunkett headbutts him in the chest. He then gouges his face in the ropes (as seen above). Royal comes back, though, hitting a slam, and then knocking Plunkett out with a spinning forearm to the face for the pin. MY TAKE: Whether Royal is truly healthy enough for in-ring competition is moot, because he picks up another solid win here since coming back from heart surgery.

The Mascara Mafia: Espy & Paredyse b. The Best Team Ever: Rudy Switchblade & "Mr. Pec-Tacular" Jessie Godderz, The Street Kings: Matt & Chase King, and the Mobile Homers: Adam Revolver & "Manbeast" Ted McNaler (w/Brittany DeVore). Adam started out with Jessie, placing him in an armbar and tagging in Ted. Ted hits Jessie's arm. He tags Adam back and they hit a double elbow to take Jessie down, followed by a double elbow drop. Jessie tags out to Chase and stays in the Kings' corner with Matt. He argues with Rudy from their corner. Rudy comes in for Adam, putting a headlock on Chase. He doesn't tag Jessie as they argue some more. Chase tags in Matt, who comes in and hip tosses Rudy. He tags Chase back who slams Rudy. Rudy tags out to Espy who comes in and fights for a bit, before things break loose. The Kings are thrown out of the ring by the Mobile Homers, the Mascara Mafia then pinches the Mobile Homers out of the ring from behind before each diving out on the 4 on the outside. This leaves Rudy & Jessie in the ring. They are arguing and Jessie dares Rudy to hit him. The fans are chanting for Rudy. Paredyse is back up and sneaks in behind Jessie rolling him up for the pin as Rudy just watches. MY TAKE: I think we are watching the beginning of the end for the team known as BTE. Unless they are pulling another fast one, of course.

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always recommend watching the episode first on TV or online before reading the rest of the report. Again, you can check it out on OVW's official website late Thursday afternoon/evening at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

Before the main intro, we get a video from the "Hulkster" Hulk Hogan congratulating OVW on 700 episodes, and wishing the best for the next 700. After the intro, Danny Davis in the cage thanking everyone for being a part of 700 episodes, and says every title will be on the line tonight, and we are starting things off in the steel cage!

Doug Williams vs. "Smooth" Johnny Spade. Spade goes right after Doug with some chops and bites him in the head. He throws him in the corner and gives him 10 punches. Spade attempts to throw Doug into the cage, but Doug blocks it and tries to throw Spade into it. Spade blocks it and hits another chop. He throws Doug in the corner and hits the patented high knee, followed by a clothesline. He sets up for the super kick, but Doug catches his foot. Doug throws Spade head first into the cage. He drops a couple knees on Spade's head, and puts him in a reverse chinlock. Doug tries to escape through the door, but Spade catches him. Doug fights Spade off and hits an axehandle off the top rope. He tries to do it again, but Spade catches him with a shot to the gut. Doug is back up and tries to either piledrive or powerbomb Spade, but Spade blocks and reverses, flipping Doug into the steel cage. Both try to climb and escape at the same time, and walk across the top rope to get to each other. They exchange blows and Spade falls racking himself across the top rope.
Doug tries to climb again, but Spade reaches up and catches him. They both fall and crash to the mat. Spade hits another high knee and takes Doug down. He hits the senton bomb for a 2 count. He tries to escape the door, but Doug pulls him back in, and shoves Spade's hand through a slot in the cage where he gets stuck. Doug chokes him with his boot and tries to escape over the top again. Spade gets free and catches him. He nails the super kick, but again only gets 2. Spade tries to escape, but Doug meets him at the top. Spade rams Doug's face into the steel 3 times and Doug crashes to the mat. Spade goes for a senton from high up the cage wall, but crashes and burns as Doug moves. Doug hits Chaos Theory and gets the pin. WINNER: WILLIAMS by pinfall. MY TAKE: I was kinda surprised by the outcome of this match, but a great duel nonetheless. Williams' veteran experience outdid Spade in this one.

We get a video from IMPACT superstar and OVW alumni Misterrrrrr Anderson! He says it's funny how things come full circle. He got his start in OVW and congratulates them on 700.
We then get another video from TNA Knockout and OVW alumni Tara. She says congratulations on 700 and thanks her trainers Nick "Eugene" Dinsmore and Rob Conway, and of course Danny Davis for where she is today. She sends well wishes for another 700.

OVW WOMEN'S TITLE MATCH: Taeler Hendrix vs. Jessie Belle (c). Taeler attacks Jessie Belle during her ring entrance. She kicks her and throws her out of the ring. She chokes her on the barricade (as seen above) and slams her on the floor. She drags her around ringside in front of the commentary table and suplexes her on the floor. Taeler is in the ring as Jessie Belle climbs up on the apron. Taeler tries to grab her, but Jessie Belle headbutts her twice in the gut. The third time, Taeler avoids, and grabs Jessie Belle and rams her head into the corner turnbuckle. She then drags her through the ropes and drops her face first on the mat. She sits Jessie Belle on the top rope and goes for a hurricanrana, but Jessie throws her down face first on the mat. Taeler is able to recover and take Jessie Belle back down. She stands over her taunting her, but Jessie Belle rolls her up for 3! WINNER and STILL OVW WOMEN'S CHAMPION: JESSIE BELLE by pinfall. After the match, Taeler throws a tantrum at ringside. MY TAKE: Taeler's arrogance has cost her, and she's losing her mind...
Backstage, Taeler is still screaming and having a breakdown. She looks over and sees another gift by her locker. Dylan Bostic walks in and she hugs him, but he looks confused. He shrugs his shoulders.
We get a video from Olympic Gold Medalist and IMPACT superstar Kurt Angle. He congratulates OVW on 700 and says "Oh, it's real!"

Eddie Diamond is out with Timmy Danger & the X2C ladies. Danger says Diamond is going to be the new TV Champion after tonight. Eddie takes the mic and says first, though, Valentine's Day is coming up and it's time for this week's "Mixtape". Instead of a "Suckah of the Week", Diamond says he has had his eyes on someone since coming to OVW...Epiphany. He wants her to be the Kim to his Kanye, Beyonce to his Jay-Z, Selena Gomez to his Justin Bieber. He wants Epiphany to call him.
OVW TELEVISION TITLE MATCH: Eddie Diamond vs. "The Great" Cliff Compton (c). They lock up in the corner. Cliff goes to hit Diamond, but Diamond moves and hits Cliff. He slams him down and goes for the Soulja Boy Shuffle. Cliff moves and rolls Diamond up with a handful of tights for 3 and this one is over quick. WINNER and STILL OVW TV CHAMPION: COMPTON by pinfall. After the match, Cliff grabs a mic and says he is the only wrestler with 2 belts. He calls himself "Mr. Multimedia", and talks about how great he is as TV Champion. Jamin Olivencia runs out and Cliff goes to hit him with one belt, but Jamin ducks and grabs the second belt off the mat and clocks Cliff in the head with it. MY TAKE: It doesn't look like Jamin is finished in his quest to win the OVW TV Title. He wants revenge and the title after the way Cliff beat him at the last SNS.

We get a video from "The Icon". Sting congratulates OVW on 700 and says he remembers his days in training camp in Southern California. He tells everyone to keep up the hard work and it will be showtime for many of them.

OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Coalition Forces: General Crimson & General Wayne vs. Alex Silva & Sam Shaw (c). Crimson lays in some shots to Silva to start off. Silva fires back and tags in Shaw. Crimson lays some shots in to Shaw and tags in Wayne. Wayne runs in, but Shaw hits him with a drop toehold. Shaw tags Silva back in. Silva drops a forearm on Wayne. Wayne comes back and tags in Crimson. They double team Silva after Crimson knocks Shaw off the ring apron. Crimson chokes Silva. He tags Wayne back in and they try for a double clothesline, but Silva breaks through it and makes the tag to Shaw. Shaw comes in on fire and knocks Wayne to the outside. He hits Crimson with his backbreaker/neckbreaker combo. He goes up top and nails Breaking Point, but Wayne comes in and distracts the ref. Silva gets in, but the ref tries to get him back in his corner. Meanwhile, Wayne throws the chain of bullets to Crimson, and Crimson blasts Shaw in the head with them. Wayne grabs Silva's feet to keep him from getting in as Crimson gets the 1-2-3! WINNERS and NEW OVW SOUTHERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: COALITION FORCES by pinfall. After the match, the rest of the Coalition comes out and beats down on Silva and Shaw and drapes an American flag across them. MY TAKE: As if these guys needed a bigger ego boost, they are now tag team champions in their quest to rid all of the "terrorists" from OVW.

The final video comes from the current TNA World Champion, Jeff Hardy. He congratulates OVW on 700 and tells everyone to continue to dream big.

OVW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Flash Flanagan (w/Josette Bynum) vs. "The Welsh Colossus" Rob Terry (c). Flash attacks Rob before the bell, but Rob fires right back. Flash reverses and throws Rob out of the ring. Back in the ring, Flash slaps Rob in the head. Rob comes back with axehandles and clotheslines. He goes to throw Flash into the corner, but referee Chris Sharpe is in the way and gets taken out. Rob hits a powerslam, but there's no ref to count. Josette is up on the ring apron yelling and Rob grabs her. Flash is back to his feet and hits a reverse DDT. Another ref is out for a 2 count. Rob comes back again and accidentally knocks out the 2nd ref. As he checks on the 2nd ref, Flash grabs a chair and hits Rob across the back. It doesn't faze Rob, but Josette throws powder in his eyes. Flash rolls him up with a handful of tights, but Sharpe is back up and only makes a 2 count. Sharpe continues to try and shake the cobwebs as Flash winds up to hit Rob with the chair again. Trailer Park Trash runs out and hits a DDT and hits Flash with the chair and puts Rob over Flash. Sharpe turns around and makes the 3 count. WINNER and STILL OVW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: TERRY by pinfall. MY TAKE: Big Rob's title reign will continue and it appears the feud between Trash & Flash will as well.

This ended the TV taping.

There were no post-show dark matches tonight.

Don't forget this episode will be up online tomorrow. Every Monday night you can find the latest edition of the OVW Top 20 here on OVWmania. As always, thanks for reading!

  1. I thought we would see the exchange of the heavyweight and Femme Fatales’ belts. Hopefully the scripters will continue to provide Taeler with the exposure that is necessary for her to get back into the IMPACt ring. And the OVW belt. Surprised it did not occur at this event, especially with TNA’s virtual appearances and her huge TNA fan following. Maybe at the next SNS. Keep up the great work Brian.
