OVWmania Presents: Top 10 Stories of 2012

Hello everyone! Instead of the regularly scheduled Top 20, OVWmania presents the Top 10 stories that happened in OVW in 2012. Especially with it being New Year's Eve, let's take a trip down memory lane and "countdown" the most noteworthy events as we head into 2013 and the next big event for OVW, the January 5th Saturday Night Special.

OVWmania's Superstar Spotlight: Jamin Olivencia

This is the final Superstar Spotlight for the month of December. Starting in 2013, I will be cutting back to 1 or 2 per month. The weekly Spotlights for December were done as an introductory experiment.

JAMIN OLIVENCIA
OVW Television Champion
From: Buffalo, NY
Height: 5'9" Weight: 210 lbs.

Trained by the legendary Rip Rogers and the amazing staff at OVW, Jamin Olivencia has been wrestling since he was 17 years old. He started with OVW in 2005, but on August 1, 2007, he teamed with T.J. Dalton to win his first title as he captured the OVW Southern Tag Team Championships from the James Boys (Kassidy and K.C. James). More impressively, he has won the OVW Television Title a record 8 times. He was the first TV Champion following the end of the WWE-OVW relationship, and is currently the OVW TV Champion. He has defeated several tough opponents including former WWE superstar James Curtis, Rudy Switchblade, Mike Mondo, Paredyse, Mohamad Ali Vaez, and most recently Joe Coleman.

He has appeared in other promotions over the years like WWE, wrestling on Sunday Night Heat and Superstars, and appearing as a man in white alongside fellow OVW superstar Dylan Bostic to take Daniel Bryan to a mental health institute on an episode of RAW. He has also worked a dark match for TNA against Stevie Richards and appeared in ROH against Mike Bennett. Jamin has also branched out beyond the ring. He has appeared in "The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity" at both the Actor's Theatre in Louisville and the Dallas Theater Center, where he acted in and choreographed most of the wrestling scenes. He was also cast on the 4th season of the Oxygen reality show Love Games.

He was ranked at #454 in the 2012 PWI Top 500. Jamin finishes most of his opponents off with the Standing O, a jumping guillotine DDT. Jamin deserves a "Standing O" for all his accomplishments so far, but with 10 years of experience at the age of 27, Jamin is only going to get better with time.
You can follow him on twitter @JaminOlivencia.

OVW Special Report: Live Event Results

Even though there was not a TV taping tonight, the Davis Arena was still full of hot action on this very chilly Wednesday night. Due to the weather, however, Danny Davis was not able to make it to the show tonight. More on that in a moment. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday. Unlike my usual Wednesday night reports, this will just be a quick recap of tonight's action. My normal Wednesday night report is also up for viewing for the episode that will air online at ovwrestling.com/tv tomorrow and in the Louisville area on Saturday afternoon. Again, I stress that my reports for the Wednesday TV tapings should be read AFTER viewing the show unless you cannot view it for some reason or are just in a hurry to see what happens. Now for tonight's results:

Trailer Park Trash came out and told everyone that due to the snowfall in Northern Indiana, Danny Davis could not make it to the show tonight. He told everyone in attendance that if they came back next week with their ticket stubs, they would get 2 for 1 admissions. The Platoon's Jason Wayne & Jack Black came out and Wayne said weather didn't stop them when they were storming the beaches in Normandy. Danny Davis was scared. Trash says he'll make them a deal. If they agree to sign an open contract for next Wednesday's live event, he will face them both in a handicap match tonight. Wayne agrees to set up the main event.

"The Ken of OVW and Justin Bieber of Professional Wrestling" Dylan Bostic defeated "Marksman" Nick Dumeyer by pinfall following a backstabber.

Stephon J. Baxter III defeated Austin Bradley by pinfall following a leaping butt bump. A funny moment during the match when Stephon "Urkeled" up and took Austin down and said "Did I do that?" Following the match, the Assassin took out Austin with 3 clotheslines.

"White Kryptonite" Eddie F. Diamond (w/Timmy "Rampage" Danger) defeated the Bodyguy by pinfall following the Soulja Boy Shuffle.

"Smooth" Johnny Spade defeated SK Evesledge by pinfall following a super kick and senton bomb. During the match, Spade laid some nasty chops in on Evesledge and even referee Joe Wheeler got involved and pushed Evesledge down for arguing with him.

Alex Silva defeated Doug Williams by pinfall after hitting the Silva Surfer. In my opinion, this was the best match of the night.

In the main event, Trailer Park Trash defeated the Platoon of Wayne by DQ. Trash had locked up with Wayne and took him into the corner. Black ran in the ring and hit Trash from behind. Black & Wayne continued to double team Trash and Wheeler called for the bell. The POW then handcuffed Trash to the ropes and continued to hammer away. Wayne ordered Black to go get a chair so that they could break his leg. Wheeler and referee Josh Ashcraft tried to yell at them to stop. Before they could do any damage, Johnny Spade with a lead pipe, Timmy Danger with a 2x4, Eddie Diamond with a metal sign, and Alex Silva with a can of Lysol (?) ran out and chased them away. Trash then got on the mic and said that him and Danny might be getting up in years, but they still knew how to kick butt and would see them next week. Before the night closed, Trash & Spade said their goodbyes to referee Joe Wheeler. Unfortunately, his last night was tonight and he will be unable to ref the tag match with Trash & Danny Davis next week.

OVW TV #697: "A Spade Up The Sleeve"

This is the OVW Report, Part 1 from the night of Wednesday, December 19, 2012. There were 2 weeks of episodes taped, but this report only covers the first hour that was taped and will be available for viewing online tomorrow (December 27).

In this episode, The Coalition struck again, Dylan Bostic was in action, Jamin was scheduled to defend the OVW TV Title, the Best Team Ever wore some interesting ring gear, Josette got Flash a warmup match, and the Coalition went to battle with James "Moose" Thomas and company.

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

The Wild Cards: "Rudo" Raul LaMotta & Shiloh Jonze b. "Marksman" Nick Dumeyer & Stephon J. Baxter III. The Wild Cards attack from behind to start the match. The two teams exchange blows, but Raul & Shiloh are on top when the Assassin's music hits. Raul & Shiloh grab the ref and hide on the far side of the ring floor. Assassin comes in and takes out Dumeyer with a massive clothesline. Stephon turns around and after seeing the Assassin, runs from the ring to the back. After the Assassin leaves, Raul picks up the referee and they get in the ring to make the pin. MY TAKE: Well, the Wild Cards get a tag team win, but give the assist to the mysterious Assassin.

"VIP" Joe Rosa b. Sean Conway. VIP & Conway lock up, but VIP takes the advantage and controls most of the match. He lays in some chops and hits a big spinebuster, but Conway kicks out. Conway tries to make a comeback hitting some clotheslines, but VIP grabs the referee. Conway comes up behind VIP to grab him, but VIP raises his leg and low blows Conway, where the ref can't see it. VIP then hits a death valley driver like maneuver to finish him off for the victory. MY TAKE: VIP picks up a win and has the potential to be a major player. Let's see where he goes from here.

I always suggest watching the show first before reading my full report. You can find the shows posted online late Thursday afternoons/evenings at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

OVWmania's Superstar Spotlight: Alex Silva

ALEX SILVA
OVW Southern Tag Team Champion
From: Montreal, Quebec
Height: 6'0" Weight: 200 lbs.

Alex Silva has always had wrestling in his blood. He was trained by his late father, who was also a professional wrestler and went by the name of Tommy Rose. His father had a big influence on his decision to enter the wrestling world and it has worked out well for the young star. He started wrestling in his native Quebec, but quickly ventured out into many other places around the U.S. He had made appearances for Ring of Honor, TNA, and WWE, but has made a name for himself in OVW. After debuting in November of 2010, he won his first title in less than a month. He defeated Mohamad Ali Vaez for the OVW TV Title, becoming the youngest TV champion in OVW history. He has since won the OVW TV Title on 3 separate occasions.

Silva had made an appearance in TNA before, but none bigger than the episode of IMPACT from April 26 earlier this year. He was the first ever contestant on TNA's new concept of GutCheck. Silva had the opportunity to wrestle a match and be judged on whether or not he deserved an opportunity to win a contract with the company. Although he lost to Robbie E, he stood in front of the judges the following week. In front of Bruce Prichard, Al Snow, & the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Silva impressed the judges enough to be awarded a contract, becoming the first ever winner of GutCheck.

More recently, Silva has teamed up with a fellow GutCheck winner in Sam Shaw. "The Gutcheckers" won the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles at the last Saturday Night Special on December 1st, defeating the "Best Team Ever" of Rudy Switchblade and fellow TNA superstar "Mr. Pec-Tacular" Jessie Godderz. This duo has worked extremely well together finishing their opponents off with Alex's "Silva Surfer" and Shaw's "Breaking Point". Silva was also recognized by the PWI 500, ranking him at #261 for 2012. The sky is the limit for Silva, and his unlimited potential makes all his opponents say "UH-OH!".
You can follow him on twitter @SilvaUhOh.

Joseph Park's OVW Training Continues

Last night on IMPACT, another video was shown featuring Joseph Park's training at OVW. Many superstars were also seen and featured including Sam Shaw, Johnny Spade, Jamin Olivencia, Taeler Hendrix, & Austin Bradley among others. You can watch it by clicking the play button above.

OVW News: Joe Wheeler Retires

During last night's OVW TV tapings, it was announced at intermission that referee Joe Wheeler would be retiring from the wrestling business. Kind words were said by Trailer Park Trash, "Nightmare" Danny Davis, & Dean Hill with the wrestlers and other referees out at ringside. Joe was a big part of OVW and will be missed, but he is ready to hang up the stripes. He has been in the business for a long time and refereed many matches.
He will officiate his final match next Wednesday night at Davis Arena in a tag team main event that will feature the tag team of Trailer Park Trash & Danny Davis.

He posted the following last night on his retirement:
"Thanks to all the great talent and wonderful fans of Ohio Valley Wrestling for the wonderful send off tonight at Davis Arena. I love and appreciate you all. To the wrestlers thank you for all the respect you have shown me thru the years. It is greatly appreciated. The wrestling business has changed a lot since I started 25 years ago and I tried to change with it but have been accused of being stuck in the 80's and 90's and maybe I am but it has been fun. I will be working one final time next Wednesday as I referee the tag match with Danny Davis and Trailer Park Trash against some formidable opponents. See you then. Thanks Dean Hill and Frank Miller for your kind words and thanks to Danny Davis for allowing me to be part of something I love for so many years. I have many memories to hold on to and I among all have been truly blessed. Again thanks fans and keep supporting OVW."

From OVWmania: We will miss you Joe, but enjoy your retirement! You've definitely earned it!

In this episode, Trailer Park Trash called out Josette Bynum, the Gutcheckers were in action against the Wild Cards, Cliff Compton explained his actions, and Crimson & Jason Wayne were at war with Moose once again!

OVWmania's Superstar Spotlight: Taeler Hendrix

TAELER HENDRIX
OVW Women's Champion
From: Seattle, WA
Height: 5'7"

Debuting in OVW as the "One Girl Revolution", Taeler made a name for herself quickly by becoming OVW Women's Champion defeating Lady Jojo (Josette Bynum). She has went on to win the title on 3 separate occasions, most recently defeating TNA Knockout Referee Taryn Terrell. She hasn't had the best relationship with the fans, however. After aligning with Dylan Bostic and joining Josette Bynum's "Jo-VW" side earlier this year, she has been bombarded with chants of "Prostitot" among other things, due in large part to her feud with Randy Royal & Epiphany. The fans have let her know how they feel, but there's no denying her success, as she continues to be one of the most dominant Femme Fatales in OVW for the past year.

Taeler opened up about her personal life earlier this year on TNA IMPACT when she appeared as the first and only female GutCheck competitor. At the age of 21, she was misdiagnosed with cancer. She didn't let that stop her, though. Besides her accolades in OVW, she went on to win a contract through TNA's GutCheck, becoming the first and only female winner. She was also recognized on this year's Pro Wrestling Illustrated Female 50, coming in at #38. She was the only current OVW roster member featured on the list.

This fiery redhead ends her matches with a roundhouse kick to the head of her opponents called "The Kiss Goodnight". It's a devastating maneuver and the reason she is a current and 3-time OVW Women's Champion.
You can follow her on twitter @Taeler_Hendrix.

OVW featured on IMPACT!

In case you missed last night's episode of IMPACT Wrestling, they aired a video of Joseph Park's first day training in OVW with owner Danny Davis. You can watch it by clicking the play button above. Enjoy!

OVW TV #695: "The Militia Strikes"

This is the OVW Report for the night of Wednesday, December 12, 2012. There were 2 weeks of episodes taped, but I will only post a report tonight on the first hour that will be released online tomorrow. I will write a report on the second hour tonight, but it will be released next Wednesday night. They will also tape 2 episodes next week, and they will be posted the following 2 Wednesday nights. They are taping in advance with the holidays approaching.

Tonight at the Davis Arena, Josette Bynum further explained her actions, the Best Team Ever was in action, Jamin Olivencia defended the OVW TV Title, OVW Women's Champion Taeler Hendrix was in action, we got an update from Randy Royal, and Crimson & Jason Wayne set out to take over OVW!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Matches:

Jeremiah Plunkett b. Eddie Diamond (w/Timmy Danger & X2C Ladies). Danger reminded everyone to vote on the "Suckah of the Year" through twitter @DuardoDiamond and @TimmyDanger, before saying Plunkett looked like a good candidate. Plunkett hammered Diamond down and tries to wear him out with a couple submissions. He hits Diamond with a couple headbutts. Diamond comes back with some forearms including a big one in the corner. He does his "E-F-D" chant and goes for a second forearm in the corner, but Plunkett puts his boot up. Diamond catches his foot, but when he throws it down, Plunkett catches him with the "Best Right in the Business" knockig him out for the pin. MY TAKE: Plunkett has found a winning formula with his big right.

"Marksman" Nick Dumeyer & Tony Gunn (w/Ralphie) b. The Bodyguy & Chase King. King & Bodyguy attacked Gunn & Dumeyer from behind and hammered them in the corner. They tried to throw Gunn & Dumeyer into each other, but Dumeyer ducked and Gunn leapfrogged over him. Dumeyer threw King out of the ring and Gunn put Bodyguy in the bearhug. He then flipped him over into a bridge for the pin. After the match, Gunn chased referee Josh Ashcraft around the ring, to the back, and back out around the ring again trying to put him in a bearhug, too. MY TAKE: Gunn & Dumeyer made quick work of the Bodyguy & King. Are they looking to try and get into tag team title contention?

That concludes tonight's pre-show dark matches. I always suggest watching the show first before reading my full report. You can find the shows posted online late Thursday afternoons/evenings at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

OVWmania Presents: OVW Top 20 (Ed. 31)

This is the OVW Top 20 for the week of December 4-10, 2012 exclusively on OVWmania. After last week's TV featuring the fallout from SNS, we have a lot of movement on this week's rankings. Where does the talent stack up this week?

OVWmania's Superstar Spotlight: Rob Terry

ROB TERRY
OVW Heavyweight Champion
From: Swansea, Wales, UK
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 318 lbs.

He's called "The Freak", "The Welsh Colossus", "Big Rob", and currently OVW Heavyweight Champion. The big man's smallest leg vein may be thicker than most people's necks. Rob Terry debuted in TNA Wrestling as part of the British Invasion and once held the TNA Television Title for an impressive and lengthy 167 days. Currently, he associates himself in TNA with Robbie E., holding a bouncer's clipboard and letting people know if they're on "the List".

In OVW, Terry has made a quick name for himself by becoming one of a select few to hold every major title in the company and become the 8th triple crown champion (there are now 9). He's accomplished this feat in less than a year after debuting in OVW back in January. He was brought in as part of the Family and feuded a great deal of early 2012 with OVW fan favorite Johnny Spade over the OVW Heavyweight Title. It wasn't until September 19 that Rob Terry started gaining cheers from the OVW fans when he started feuding with Crimson. After 3 encounters with Crimson, he finally won the OVW Heavyweight Title for a second time at the December 1 Saturday Night Special. He is still in a war with Crimson, Crimson's Army, and the Platoon of Wayne after they became allies and took the big man out at the most recent OVW Television Taping on December 5, injuring his knee with a steel chair.

One thing is for sure, whether it be TNA or OVW, Big Rob is always looking to make an IMPACT!
You can follow him on twitter @RobTerryimpact

TNA's Joseph Park Training in OVW!

Tonight on IMPACT Live, Hulk Hogan was on the phone and said he got the paperwork from Joseph Park to wrestle, but would have to check with Al Snow in OVW first before bringing him up to the roster. I did spot Park in the parking lot before last night's show and now the pieces are falling together. Looking at OVW's track record, there is no better place to train and learn to wrestle than at Davis Arena in Louisville. Good luck to Mr. Park in his training and welcome to OVW!

OVW TV #694: "Blindsides Aplenty"

This is the OVW Report for the night of Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Tonight at the Davis Arena, we finally found out the identity of Trailer Park Trash's mystery attacker, the Gutcheckers defended the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles against the Mascara Mafia, Jamin Olivencia defended the OVW TV Title, we crowned a new #1 contender for the OVW Women's Championship, and Crimson's Army joined forces with the Platoon of Wayne!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

Pre-Show Dark Match:

Dylan Bostic b. Tony Gunn (w/Ralphie). Bostic was announced as the "Ken" of OVW and the Justin Bieber of professional wrestling. Gunn teased placing referee Josh Ashcraft in the bearhug which allowed Bostic to attack from behind to start the match. Bostic worked over Gunn's head and neck as he again yelled out "Who Sucks Now?". Gunn started to fight back and tried to twice roll Bostic up, but only got 2 counts. He hit a backdrop and then went for the airplane spin. As he started twirling, Dylan reached out and grabbed Ashcraft. Gunn stopped the Airplane Spin allowing Bostic to get out of the hold and hit a backstabber for the victory. MY TAKE: Bostic, at least on this night, doesn't suck now.

That concludes tonight's only pre-show dark match. I always suggest watching the show first before reading my full report. You can find the shows posted online late Thursday afternoons/evenings at www.ovwrestling.com/tv.

OVWmania Presents: OVW Top 20 (Ed. 30)

This is the OVW Top 20 for the week of November 27-December 3, 2012 exclusively on OVWmania. After last week's TV and the huge December SNS, we have a lot of movement on this week's rankings. Who is the new #1?

OVW Saturday Night Special December 2012 Results

Tonight at the Davis Arena, Rob Terry was hoping the third time would be the charm in his match with Crimson for the OVW Heavyweight Title, The POW's went to war with the Moose, the Best Team Ever defended the OVW Southern Tag Titles against the Gutcheckers, Joe Coleman defended the OVW Television Title against Jamin Olivencia again in a no disqualification match, Taryn Terrell defended the OVW Women's Title in a match where the loser would be dumped in a pool of doggy doo, Johnny Spade faced Doug Williams in a "Gentleman's Rules" match, Trailer Park Trash went 1-on-1 with his mystery attacker, plus much more!

Without further ado:

Here we go...

"VIP" Joe Rosa (w/Jose Del Barrio) vs. Paredyse. Paredyse chases VIP to start the match, and he hides behind Del Barrio. Del Barrio and VIP keep hiding behind each other until Del Barrio finally jumps out of the ring. VIP goes to hide behind Del Barrio and turns to see he's not there. Paredyse comes up from behind and rolls VIP up and slaps his backside. He then jumps on VIP's back and rides him around the ring. He hits a butt bump, and then jumps into VIP's arms making kissy faces at him. VIP throws him off as Del Barrio gets on the apron. Paredyse ducks as VIP tries to attack from behind, and VIP almost hits Del Barrio. Paredyse rolls him up for a 2 count. Del Barrio is still on the apron, and VIP takes advantage with Paredyse's attention on Del Barrio. VIP hits a legdrop after strutting to his "VIP" name. He then hits a big spinebuster, but no pin. Paredyse starts to fire back and hits a drop kick followed by a kip up. He then delivers the Kiss of Death and gets the 3. WINNER: PAREDYSE by pinfall. MY TAKE: A fun bonus match got the night kicked off right. Nice performance from Paredyse.
